How small hotels prevent double bookings
In short: double bookings happen when availability lives in more than one place. Keep one record that everyone uses. If you also sell on booking sites, you need a channel manager or a strict manual routine.
Why double bookings happen
- Two staff check a paper register and take the same room.
- A phone booking is noted down but entered later.
- A booking site sells a room you just gave away at the desk.
1. Keep one source of truth
Enter every booking in one place at the moment you take it, including phone bookings.
2. Be clear about nights
A stay runs from check-in to check-out, and the check-out day is free for the next guest. Celstix counts stays this way and refuses a second booking on the same room and nights, even when two people try at once.
3. If you sell on booking sites
Software that only knows about its own bookings cannot see what a booking site just sold. Celstix does not sync with those sites. Either use a system with a channel manager, or hold back separate rooms for each site and update them by hand every day.
4. Check tomorrow every evening
Compare tomorrow's arrivals with your rooms each evening. A problem found the night before can be fixed with a call.
